The Fruit of A Spirit
When the world is rushing by, it can be difficult to find any sort of firm footing to bear fruit for God.
Sometimes, to embrace His Spirit, we need to stop and take a “spirit”. This lesson is a play-on-words of the Greek word pneuma which is translated as both “spirit” and “breath.” The point of this lessons is simple yet profound: slow down, and take a breath. Let’s explore what that looks like, starting in Galatians.
1. Walking By The Spirit (5:16-17)
a. We Are Called To Walk, Not Run (Eph. 4:1, 2 Cor. 5:7, 3 John 4, Heb. 12:1)
b. God Is Described In Walking Language (Gen. 2:2, 3:8, Lev. 26:3-4, 11-12, 2 Pet. 3:9)
c. The Faster We Go, The More Shallow Our Spirit
2. Led By The Spirit (5:18-23)
a. The Spirit Leads Us, Not The Other Way Around (Ex. 13:21-22, Psalm 119:105, 37:7)
b. This Spirit Is Accessible To All (Gal. 3:13-14, 26-28)
3. Taking A “Spirit” (5:22-25)
a. The Fruit Of A Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23, John 15:4-5)
b. Breathe Him In, Empty Yourself
This is a world of darkness, a life of difficult, and a culture of “now.” We must slow down, choose to be led by the Spirit, and walk in step with our Creator.
